One of the best vegan Japanese place in Portland. The whole menu is vegan and chef made. They make all the sauces in house which was really nice to know. We tried a lot the things from the menu. From my point of view, onigiri, udon noodle soup and giant tots were the best. We ate here twice on our 4-day trip to Portland.
It's hard of find street parking on busy days around this place, so I would go prepared if that's when you are going.
The service was top notch. Everyone explained the ingredients and process really in detail which showed how much effort they have put in the menu.
12/10 would definitely go back to this place when I'm in Portland again.
I absolutely love Obon! They are one of my fave restaurants. They have such a fun variety of food along with a changing menu. I love trying different things every time I come here. The only thing that I'd love to see them add is an option for rice or soy paper instead of seaweed. Seaweed tastes disgusting to me so I order things without it or where it can just be not added on. Otherwise they are awesome!
In every big city, you can find the places that serve the ever-present impossible/beyond burgers. In Portland, there is a plethora of unique and tasty vegan establishments. This one really offers something special. All the menu items you simply won’t find elsewhere. If you’re a vegan foodie, this place is a must!
The mushroom gyoza is a special just for this month, and it something truly special. The giant tater tots is a regular item and I couldn’t recommend them more highly!!! Soft and mushy inside with herb-enhanced mashed potatoes, and a crunchy outer layer. I may go back and just order 15 of these. They are amazing. GO!!!
Went for a late lunch and was a great choice. Must try the large gator tots, they are like deep fried mashed potatoes, so tasty. Had the curry and the tempura udon. Both fantastic. The udon is hand pulled and the broth is delish. The curry is a great try, but did prefer the udon soup. All in all a great vegan lunch spot, and one you could take a non vegan and they would enjoy. Will be back. Many items to still try on the menu.
Curry udon was good, I like that the noodles were super fresh and didn't take long to prepare, but the broth was a bit salty for me (and I love salt), looking forward to coming back and trying other items !
Cozy vegan Japanese comfort food. Came here a second time and loved it. Eating here makes me feel like I'm in Japan again.
Favorite things tried so far:
- Okonomiyaki
- Onigiri (Aleppo pepper)
- Kenchinjiru (ginger miso stew)
- Curried korokke
If you come by car, be prepared to find street parking (typically free after 6:00 p.m.).
My first time in Portland and I wanted to try a different twist on Japanese cuisine. The food was phenomenal and well seasoned, the tofu was the best I’ve ever tasted it was so crunchy and crispy but yet light on the inside. Anyone wanting a twist on Japanese and want something new 10/10 recommend coming here.
This is a vegetarian friendly restaurant with a Japanese flair.🗻 We had Thai chili w/ aka miso onigiri ($4), Yuzu w/ pumpkin seed miso onigiri ($4),🍙 Curried korokke ($6) and Kenchinjiru ($4 cup). The onigiri are not pre-made, but made to order by the chef, and the flavor is original with a hint of miso. The kentin soup is also a miso soup with lots of ginger and other ingredients. They are all authentic Japanese flavors. The prices were reasonable and the staff were all very nice and pleasant. We enjoyed the food we had today, and I'd like to try the other dishes next time.🤤
